2014 was a big year for all of us at NLC NYC. First and foremost, we welcomed into our ranks 20 awesome fellows with stunningly diverse backgrounds, including leaders in education, politics, gender and sexuality, drug politics, and socio-economic justice. Their full bios can be found here, and we’re sure that

they’ll go on to do new and fantastic work in the years ahead. They join 30+ chapters with 2,000+ alumni (including 140 in New York City).

In March 2014 we were joined by some of New York City’s greatest political leaders – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Public Advocate Letitia “Tish” James, and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer – to celebrate the accomplishments and future success of NLC NYC. Thank you to Mitch Draizin, NLC New York City Honorary Chair extraordinaire, for emceeing a successful event!

Never forgetting our regional colleagues, we joined the New Jersey and Philadelphia chapters for an amazing Northeast Conversation. Together we discussed the future of NLC and the progressive movement, with guidance and insights from national leaders in labor, government, and advocacy.

Working hand in hand with our illustrious alumni, we also threw a great fundraising party in June to ensure the future of the program, bringing in over $20,000 in support the 2015 class.

As for the next year, we’d like to hear from you. We want to know where you think we should focus our resources and attention in 2015. More importantly we want to know how you think we’ve done in engaging with issues that are important to the NYC community. Feel free to tweet at us, email us, check out our facebook or drop us a line the old fashioned way.

Here’s to a happy, progressive, and successful new year!
